Before learning: As what he mentioned in his letter, he has been studying with E-Say for 3 years now, so he has basic knowledge of English words and expressions. He can understand and use some common English words and is informed with their pronunciation. He also knows some grammar rules, though he still needs to be more aware of them when he expresses himself verbally. He was also a bit shy at the first set of classes. After learning: There were instances when he couldn’t understand my statements and questions because they were new to him. But that didn’t stop him, as he would ask questions and remember the answers and explanations. Since he is a very diligent and smart student, now he easily can identify to what I’m talking about and could express himself fluently with minor mistakes. We could talk about different topics under the sun. He can use various English words and expressions in our conversations.
Hello everyone, my English name is Alex. I’ve been studying here in E-say for more than 3 years. How time flies! Three years has passed, but until now, I can still clearly remember the ridiculous things that happened when I had my spoken English class for E-say the first time. When the teacher asked me some questions, I felt nervous and helpless. Because of my bashfulness, I didn’t know how to answer the questions even though I knew what he meant and what I could say in Chinese. More ridiculously, when I was asked to make a sentence with the words he gave me, I even took his word ‘future’ as ‘doctor’ and I didn’t realize it until I made a sentence with the ‘doctor’ and he reminded me of my mistakes and corrected them again and again. After that, I started having my oral English training course with my first teacher, a Chinese teacher, who talked to me with both Chinese and English, lead me to the charm of spoken English. Half a year later, my first foreign teacher Chloe began to teach me instead of my Chinese teacher. But just two months later, Chloe was replaced by Miss Zoe. Now, my foreign teacher is Mia, who is my fourth foreign teacher in the E-say. Even though I’ve been taught by different teachers in E-say, they are all great, responsible, kind and helpful, from whom I can learn local English accents and many useful expressions. Without them I can’t have such a fluent accent by now. By the way, I want to show my gratitude to Miss Grace, a beautiful and helpful young lady, who has helped me meet so many great teachers. I’m really enjoying my English class. I want to know more words and improve my spoken English skills so that I can be a better English speaker someday. He can remember if not memorize new English words, expressions and idioms. Make sure to have a pen and paper handy, so whenever he encounters new, unfamiliar words, he can list them down. Then look for their definitions or translations using a dictionary or translator. And because he still commits minor grammar errors, he needs to be more mindful of them. As to his listening, word recognition could be attained by being familiar how English words are enunciated. As I always recommend, make it a habit to listen to songs in English. He must do this everyday for optimum results.
